Blondie

Cocoa, Fawn, Merle

Green + Blue Eyes

Personality & Body Type:

Blondie is so sweet and goofy! She makes silly faces and looks like a one-eyed-pirate(see picture) when she gets her favorite ball in her mouth. It’s so big, she has to shut one eye. She loves to play! She loves to rough house and wrestle with the other dogs so much, she will push them and then lay on her back as if to say “okay, get me!”. She loves to chase and be chased by the other girls, tumbling all over the floor in a wrestling match until they are both exhausted. But nobody ever gets hurt, and they have so much fun. One of her favorite games to play is “keep away from Brownie” and she’s been playing it like a master since they were both puppies together. Whatever Brownie is chewing on, as soon as she looks away Blondie will quickly take it and run. She always runs just fast enough to stay out of Brownie’s reach. Their sibling rivalry is still fresh!

Ironically, when it comes to people, Blondie is extremely gentle and so observant. She watches people’s faces very closely, especially their facial expressions. She loves to cuddle on the couch with anyone who is willing and loves her belly to be gently rubbed. She lays her ears down and gives us huge puppy dog eyes, and waits patiently, as if to say “will you please pet me and cuddle with me?”. The other girls are more assertive when they want something, but Blondie is always gentle and polite. This may be why she is normally very quiet. She doesn’t fuss or whine about anything. The only thing she will bark about is if someone suddenly comes in the front door and her guard dog instincts kick in. But that lasts about 3 seconds, until she sees who it is and immediately stops. This is something typical to the breed. They are good watchdogs and will quickly alert you if they hear something that worries them. Otherwise, they rarely, if ever, bark. Along these lines, Blondie is extremely quiet.

Blondie is also a true athlete. Amazingly fast, agile, and loves to run just for the fun of running. Her body type is more athletic, with a more lean and aerodynamic build than the others. She is still muscular, but it’s lean muscle like a sprinter has. She was born to run and loves getting outside so she can turn on the jets!

The other thing that’s very unique to Blondie is her fur. It’s finer than usual for the breed, so it’s feels much softer and silkier as a result. I’ve never met another Frenchie with fur like hers. It’s too soon to tell, but I hope some of her puppies get it!

You might notice in the pictures that Blondie’s eyes are half green and half blue. This is pretty rare among Frenchies. It takes a specific combination of genes to produce this. The other unique thing is that her eyes are reciprocals of one another. Where one is blue, the other is green, and vice versa. This is uniquely produced by the Merle gene that she carries which can dilute or lighten pigment in random areas. Although her fur color is “fawn”, it is very light making her appear like a cream colored Frenchie. The “cocoa” genes she carries can be seen in the color of her nose and muzzle, as well as in the darker spots of fur along her spine. Her coloring is pretty unique, which is why her breeder was originally going to keep her for future breeding. But we talked her into letting us buy her instead :) We’re very glad we did.

Brownie

Blue, Fawn

Dark Brown Eyes

Personality & Body Type:

I call Brownie our “beauty queen”. She has a stunning beauty that still takes my breath away sometimes when I look into her eyes. Her dark auburn colored eyes are so beautiful and expressive. I’ve never met a Frenchie with more expressive eyes.

Brownie has more of a traditional “frenchie” structure, with a broader body and great head/muzzle/ear proportions. She has what I call the “wrestler build”; a stocky appearance with more muscle, but slightly shorter legs. Her coloring is especially striking; with dark brown eyes and reddish brown coat. Although she is not as fast and agile as Blondie is, she loves to run and play just as much. Her and Blondie always have a huge smile on their faces after a good run together.

Brownie is our number one “cuddle bug”. If anyone sits on the couch, she’s the first one in their lap or snuggling up against them. She is extremely affectionate in this way. And if your face is anywhere near hers, you’re getting lots of wet kisses too. One of the great things about Frenchies is how affectionate they are. And Brownie is on the extreme end of affectionate.

Two of Brownie’s favorite things are to receive a full back-scratch when she greets us in the morning, and to chew on a bone or cow hoof. If we pet the other dogs before her, she gets very vocal and makes little squeels until we pay her attention first and give her a good back-scratch. She practically melts into a puddle on the flloor; she loves it. In between games of “chase the ball” or “wrestle with Blondie”, she loves to hold a bone or cow hoof in-between her paws and chew on it to pass the time. She can sit for hours chewing or gnawing on a good bone.

When it comes to going outside, Brownie is more adventurous one than the others. She likes to push the limits of how far away from us she can explore, investigating every new smell, stick, or pile of leaves she can find. When it’s time to go inside, Brownie is always the last one to come when we call. We actually have to call several times. All the dogs love the larger property we have for exploring, but Brownie is especially happy outside with the fresh air and smell of other animals.

I often think of Frenchies as little people. They have such humorous and quirky personalities. There is never a shortage of laughter, smiles, or love when they are around. Life is simply better with a Frenchie! We are so thankful for Brownie and all of our French Bulldogs. They enrich our lives every day.

Freckles

(coming soon)

Blue, Fawn, Pied

Golden Brown Eyes

Personality & Body Type:

AKA “Party Time”. Our next “Breeding Lady” will be Freckles, daughter of Brownie. We called her Freckles because little blue dots started appearing on her nose when she was 2 weeks old. Eventually those dots grew together, giving her a blue nose. But more dots kept appearing all over her body! If you look closely, you can see blue freckles all over her body under her white fur.

We chose to keep and breed Freckles because she has such a great stereotypical bulldog structure in her body, head, and face. She is the epitome of a what most consider a French Bulldog should look like; stocky and muscular body with shorter legs, and a large head with squared jaw and upright ears. Of course, there is a lot of opinions about what a French Bulldog should look like, and there is no right answer. It all comes down to personal preference. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But Freckles checks all of the boxes on the “traditional” Frenchie look.

Freckles is little Miss “Party Time”. She has so much energy and excitement every day. She always wants to be in the middle of the action, even when there is no action. If she gets bored, look out… trouble is around the corner. She will create fun if there isn’t any. And she gets a special satisfaction from tearing things apart, especially dog beds and things from the recycling bin. A big part of this is being a puppy and needing to chew on things. She is currently 8 months old and still 2 Heat Cycles away from being a Mama. But we are excited to see the beauty and structure of the puppies she will produce. She is so much fun. You can’t be in the same room with Freckles and not smile or laugh at her.
